    1. Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it! The only snow we saw in the park during our September visit was the permanent snowfield atop Lassen Peak. I’d love to see snow and ice in the park. One day!

  1. Fantastic volcanic celebration here, Marsi, thanks so much. Your photos and descriptions of the vistas, trails, butterflies and geothermals was wonderful, brought me back to my visit to Lassen many years ago. I’m sorry you couldn’t get onto the boardwalk, but as you were able to hear the bubbling and smell the sulfur, it sounds like you got plenty close. I’m a huge fan of Lassen and this post was a treat, thank you.

    1. It is definitely worth a visit! Although the park is a bit remote, there are so many other things to see within a 2 hour drive. We didn’t leave time to see these nearby natural wonders, so next trip I’d like to take a week in the area so we can also explore Lava Beds National Monument, Mount Shasta, Lake Siskiyou, and McArthur-Burney Falls State Park. At the time I didn’t realize it had a name, but we actually drove the length of the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway between Crater Lake and Lassen NP.

  2. Nice post! It brought up good memories. We discovered Lassen by accident a number of years ago while on a long western road trip. We were making our way from Reno to the coast and suddenly we found ourselves in the park. It was high summer but there was still lots of snow. It was a great find and we hope to get back one day.

    1. Thank you, Steve! The U.S. is certainly blessed with wonderful national parks and other public lands. I definitely do not take it for granted, and dream of seeing each one some day.
