Visiting our Dog-Friendliest National Park: Petrified Forest

  1. We loved our visit there! We were actually headed to the Grand Canyon (which we still haven’t visited) when our plans were derailed. Our impromptu stop ending up being one of the best things that happened to us on that trip. It is where we ran into Mike and Dawn from Random Bits of Trial and Error – completely by accident. Did they still have signage for “Aggressive Bees” near the ruins?

    1. How cool that you ran into blogger friends. It’s a cool park, isn’t it?! Some people who visit a lot of national parks seem to rate it as kind of “meh”, but I thought the park was beautiful and super-interesting. I’d really like to go back when the weather is a little cooler and do some hiking. I didn’t notice an “aggressive bees” sign or the presence of any bees, thankfully. Juniper likely would have been stung trying to eat them!

    1. Thanks Pam! I’m glad you enjoyed the post, and my obnoxious amount of Juniper pictures. The science behind a petrified forest is fascinating! It’s crazy to imagine the lush forest of massive trees that was in this same place.

  2. I took the husband here several years ago and we loved it, but I also remember visiting as a kid with my parents and reading in the visitor center the letters from kids who had taken petrified wood and then felt guilty enough to return it with apology letter via US mail. Hilarious! Thanks for the memories.

  3. Petrified Forest National Park with its sun-swept corners looks absolutely amazing; I would love to explore it one day and photograph its otherworldly landscapes and incredible colour palettes. Thanks for sharing and have a good day. Aiva

    1. Petrified Forest really is a special place! I’m fascinated with multi-hued rock (Capitol Reef and Death Valley are also highly recommended if you haven’t been). I hope you get to see -and photograph – Petrified Forest one day!

  4. Wow, you truly can never get sick of Earth! What a beautiful landscape. Coming from a big archaeology buff, I’d love to visit Petrified Forest NP solely for the ruins and petroglyphs alone! Great post, thanks for sharing. I always love your photos!

    1. Apologies for my belated reply. New job and house have kept me busy the past 6 weeks 🙂 Petrified Forest NP is fascinating. One day I hope to explore the backcountry for a couple of days. I highly recommend adding it to your travel list!
