Day 44-47 (September 11-14)
Bellingham, Washington
Bellingham, Washington has rightfully earned its nickname: “the city of subdued excitement”.

Bellingham boasts a stunning waterfront location, two attractive historic downtown districts, hundreds of miles of trails, Western Washington University, a variety of interesting restaurants, cideries, and breweries, two indie film theaters, museums, and other great entertainment options not typically found in a city of 89,000. I won’t even get into all the other things to do within an hour of the city, although we’ll expand on a few in future posts.
I have mentioned before that our favorite activity when visiting a new city is just to walk…and walk…and walk. This post features our photo walks around downtown Bellingham’s central business district, Old Town, residential neighborhoods, and waterfront.
I’ll just let the pictures do the most of the talking…

My next post will give you a peek inside some fun restaurants and watering holes, share our afternoon in the Fairhaven historic district, and walking the scenic 2-mile South Bay Trail that runs between historic Fairhaven and Bellingham’s central business district.
This is the second in our series of Bellingham posts. If you’d like to read more…
Part 1: Larrabee State Park
Part 3: Walk, Eat, Drink: Fairhaven to Bellingham via the South Bay Trail

Wonderful pictures! I love Bellingham! I went to school at WWU back in the day so the town will always have a special place in my heart! 🙂

Thank you Susanne! You are so fortunate to have spent your college years ing Bellingham! This city has my heart. If I could pry my Tennessee-born-and-raised husband out of the South (and maybe if the city were a wee bit more affordable), I would move to Bellingham in a heartbeat! My cousin (who recommended we make a stop there on our long road trip) and I joke that we’re on the five-year plan for relocating there. I’ll have to dream about it for a while longer…

Bellingham is charming! All the best things that Seattle has in the way of mountains, water, and views, but without the crowds and traffic! 🙂

I grew up in Bellingham so this was a fun post! You found lots of our favorite places and I approve of your maybe-one-day five-year plan. 🙂
